The 8 Sequences are:
Sequence 1
Why: How to use your limbs to extend both sides of the spine evenly
How: Mostly Standing asana
After doing some basic warmup with the focus on extending the spine and opening the shoulders the focus gets narrowed down to extending the side trunk . This allows for more awarness and brings out any uneveness in the spine.
Finally we work towards a supported Warrior 3 pose, for which we utilize the wall bar.
Sequence 2
Why: How to start working safely towards back bends to open your heart
How: Mostly forward bends and back bends
In this sequence extend first of all the trunk lengthwise with some standing forward bends, before creating also more width in the chest. In order to get more space in the hearth area we do some supported back bends. We will use the Yoga Wall belts to overcome gravity in the locust pose, which will allow to work in detail on the finer points of it. After some short relase for the spine the newly gained freedom in the chest will be used for going deeper into the bridge pose before resting.
Sequence 3
Why: How to open your pelvis and how to work towards a supported shoulder stand
How: Mostly standing asanas and a bit of back bends and inversions
In the first half of the class it will be all about creating safely more space in your hips and widening the pelvis by doing a couple of standing asanas. In the second half we will use back bends to open the heart, so you can do your very best shoulder stand and bridge pose. Afterwards your lumbar will get a nice relief.
Sequence 4
Why: How to activate and later calm your body and mind
How: A bit of everything
This sequence will wake first up your body with a supported Warrior 2 pose and your mind with a suspended head stand. You will continue the sequence by mobilizing and strengthening your spine. This gained stability in your spine we will use in a baby back bend, where the focus will be to maintain this stability in your back, when going deeper, instead of just collapsing your spine.
Towards the end the half boat pose will bring again a release to your lumbar and a supported shoulder stand is calming your mind before going to the final resting pose.
Sequence 5
Why: How to open your shoulders and along with it your chest
How: Mostly standing asanas and some inversions
You will learn in this sequence how to mobilize your shoulders safely in many different arm positions and a big variety of standing asanas. A suspended headstand and a supported half full arm balance will prepare you to be inverted, so together with the gained mobility in your shoulders you can master a supported back bend. Finally we will pacify body and mind again with a supported plow pose and some easy forward bends, before going into the final resting pose.
Sequence 6
Why: How to create Stability within Mobility in Twists
How: Mostly standing asanas
Doing twists is a great way to mobilize your spine and in this sequence you will learn step by step, how to approach them. The level of difficulty will progress slowly by going from seated twists to standing twists. Once you memorized how to maintain your stability, when increasing the mobility of your spine you can apply this finally to a twisted balance pose. Towards the end we create again a balance and symetry in your body with supported forward bends and you will learn a easy, but effective Inversion before resting.
Sequence 7
Why: How to release tensions in the front of your legs and your shoulders
How: Mostly Inversions and back bends
We hold often a lot of tensions in our shoulders and in the front of our legs. Here you learn how to release them. This will help you to go deeper in the Inversions and back bends which will follow later in the class. Your lumbar will get finaly released in some forward bends before going with an open heart into your well earned final resting pose with an open heart.
Sequence 8
Why: How to open the back of your legs and open your hips
How: Mostly forward bends
Step by step we will increase the intensity of forward bends. We work in them more and more also concurrently on opening the hips, which we will make use of in some standing asanas. Finally you will learn how to get in a suspended headstand the skills for an unsupported headstand if you are ready for one. A very comfortable version of the shoulder stand will end the class.
